Kentucky’s 2024 high school signing class was a big-time one for the program. The Cats finished that cycle with a top-25 class highlighted by five-top 300 prospects. That wasn’t even including quarterback Cutter Boley and wide receiver Hardley Gilmore IV. That class made a splash in year one and many players are in line for big roles in year two.

Top-ranked signee Brian Robinson is not one of those players expected to have big role for Kentucky this season. The top-150 recruit from Youngstown still needs some more development.

“I think he’s a guy that is just still putting it all together,” Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops told KSR on Monday. “But he’s a guy that’s very conscientious, tries to work extremely hard. He cares a great deal and he’s coming along.”

Brian Robinson appeared in only two games in 2024 and enters fall camp as a redshirt freshman with four years of eligibility remaining. The young prospect who picked UK over Michigan and Penn State is currently playing defensive end and has multiple players ahead of him on the depth chart. There is not a clear avenue for playing time. Some more development is still required.

Gilmore, cornerback Terhyon Nichols, defensive lineman Jerod Smith II, safety Cam Dooley, defensive back Quay’sheed Scott, tight end Willie Rodriguez, wide receiver David Washington Jr., linebacker Antwan Smith, and EDGE Steven Soles Jr. each burned a redshirt last season and are expected to fill starter/rotation roles this season. As of right now, it does not look like that will be the case for Brian Robinson.

The highest-ranked recruit in Kentucky’s most recent top-25 signing class still needs some development time.
