Mark Pope is bringing a familiar face with him to Lexington.

According to KSR’s Matt Jones, Pope is set to bring on BYU assistant coach Cody Fueger as a member of his first staff as the head coach of Kentucky men’s basketball.

“I can confirm that former BYU Coach Cody Fueger will be one of Mark Pope’s three recruiting assistants and first member of staff,” Jones wrote on social media. “He has also been talking to recruits today on behalf of Kentucky.”

Fueger is considered a rising up-and-comer in the coaching ranks. He was tabbed one of the most impactful mid major assistant coaches in Division I men’s basketball by Silver Waves Media in both 2022 and 2023. He spent the last five seasons as an assistant under Pope at BYU (2019-24) and was previously a member of Pope’s staff when the two were at Utah Valley (2015-19).

Jones says that he doesn’t expect an official announcement from UK on Fueger or any other possible assistant coach additions until next week. However, he adds that one of Pope’s primary coaching targets will make their decision on Wednesday night.
