The Wildcats have traveled to the Gateway to the West to bring an exceptional athlete to the Bluegrass. Wednesday afternoon St. Louis EDGE Caleb Redd announced his commitment to Kentucky.

Redd officially visited Lexington in mid-June. He also took a trip to Manhattan for an official visit to Kansas State. Safeties coach Frank Buffano convinced the elite edge to pick the Kentucky Wildcats over the purple Wildcats. USC was also heavily involved in Redd’s recruitment, along with Nebraska, USC, Oklahoma and Oregon, among others.

Redd made a handful of trips to Lexington throughout the recruiting process, visiting for a game last fall and Junior Day in January. Before announcing his decision, he told On3’s Chad Simmons that the official visit sealed the deal.

“The OV just let me hang out with the players more, hear what they think and learn how they’re being treated. They’re happy to be on campus, and I like to see that.

… I love the environment, and the players treated me nice when I was down there. I love the coaching staff, and they’ve got a great idea of where they want the program to be headed. And it actually just feels like home.”

Considered a three-star prospect, Caleb Redd is the No. 13 player in the state of Missouri and the No. 64 EDGE in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

Caleb Redd commits to Kentucky

Although nearby and technically within the SEC footprint, Kentucky has not had much success recruiting in the Show Me State. Buffano has been knocking on the door in St. Louis for a few years, but has yet to secure a big recruiting win, until now.

A 6-foot-4, 220-pound edge-setter, Caleb Redd is the first outside linebacker to commit to play the position at Kentucky in the 2024 recruiting class, but he will not be the last. Kentucky’s top priority on the recruiting trail is Youngstown native Brian Robinson. The Wildcats also have their sights set on Makai Byerson and tweener LB Elijah Groves. Both are revealing their college destinations on Saturday.

Like many of Kentucky’s nine previous commitments, Caleb Redd is a versatile athlete at the high school level. Last fall he lined up at multiple spots around the defense to tally 21 sacks and 60 tackles. A powerful, persistent football player, he’s bringing plenty of potential to the Bluegrass.
