Cally Macumber is a Boss, and the Nation is Taking Note

by:Matthew Bendure09/17/13
Just days after demolishing a strong field at the Bluegrass Invitational for her first win of the season, Cally Macumber was recognized with two National level awards. On Monday, Kentucky's top female runner was named the Division I Female National Athlete of the Week by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (try saying that five times fast). The USTFCCCA apparently was feeling some love for the state of Kentucky, as Macumber was joined by Soufiane Bouchikhi (try saying that just once...) of EKU as the Men's Athlete of the Week. Although awards in September are nice, something tells me Macumber is more focused on this November, when she will look to contend for an individual title at the National Championship meet. Finally, you may have Senior Chelsea Oswald, who has used up her Cross Country eligibility, but will return to competition on the track later this year, featured in an SEC PSA (below). Macumber and Oswald  are creating quite the buzz and helping put UK's Cross Country and Track teams back on the map. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK6PbuK1Qks&feature=youtu.be Follow me on twitter, @BenduranceKSR
