The Cats are 19-3 on the season and 2-1 in SEC play. The team will now travel to Columbia, Missouri to face No. 16 Missouri in a three-game series beginning today at 7:30pm and concluding Sunday at 1:00pm. Missouri, who has won 8 of their last 10 games, lost their opening SEC series last weekend to No. 13 Texas A&M and are now 15-5 on the season and 1-2 in SEC play. Four of the five losses for the Tigers have been decided by one run against ranked opponents. Their three-day stand against the Cats at University Field will be their first home series of the year. Mizzou’s speed on offense is effective and has proved it can be the deciding factor in close games, putting runners in scoring position when the game is on the line. The Tigers have tallied 42 stolen bases throughout their first 20 games, averaging 2.1 stolen bases per game. Mizzou’s sophomore outfielder Taylor Gadbois ranks 2nd best in the SEC with 19 steals on the season. Kentucky has only 9 stolen bases on the season, however their ability to collectively power hit keeps the Cats rounding the bases. Leading the Cats at the plate hitting above .300 are Griffin Joiner (.383), who has a team best six home runs and a team high 14 RBI, followed by Darington Richardson (.350) and Emily Gaines (.345). Concluding play in Missouri on Sunday, the Cats will then travel to Indiana on Tuesday for a non-conference game against the Hoosiers before beginning a 15-game home stand at John Crop Stadium. Starting next Friday, March 21st, 21 of the Cats next 25 games will be at home including 4 SEC series during that stretch.
