Cheeto Perry's Saturday News & Views

Do you like Cheetos?  I sure do.  Something about how so many things I hate in life (the color orange, nasty cheese powder left behind, any artificial cheese flavoring) coming together to create a perfect afternoon snack always leaves me baffled.  Katy Perry’s Halloween costume gave me full clarity though. Of all of the crazy, scary, and hilarious costumes I witnessed last night, this one takes the cake.  From the orange shoes, to the look on Perry’s face, to the perfectly constructed Cheeto purse, this costume was 110% on point.  This costume even managed to top her Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake jean ensemble that she #flawlessly pulled off with Riff Raff. I can think of a few people who would love to get their paws on some of that artificial cheese flavor powder.

UK-Mizzou Game was “So Kentucky” of Kentucky…

*sigh*…. *sigh*… I don’t even know a word to describe the way this game made me feel.  Mad? Kinda.  There were so many missed opportunities.  Where was Patrick Towles?  After his game last week, this felt like a completely different QB.  What about the Offensive line? So many questions, with so little explanation.  Stoops remained calm and collected in the post game presser, saying “I’ve got to be careful because I’m very frustrated right now and I don’t want to go off.”  This kind of loss could not have come at a worse time, with Stoop’s contract extension fresh in all of our minds.  This L is obviously not entirely pegged on Coach Stoops, but with the field-goal-that-was-not-attempted lingering on all of our minds…

Towles’ Passing Streak Ended

Sophomore QB Patrick Towles started his ninth consecutive game today against the Tigers, and after his 390 passing yards last week, his performance was a huge shock.  Towles passed for a measly 158 yards, with one touchdown pass for one yard.  Most important to note is that Towles threw for 159 consecutive passes without an interception, until he threw a pick with under a minute left in the first half.  This was the second-longest completed passes streak in UK history, behind Andre Woodson’s 325 consecutive successful passes.  So for all of those whispers of  “greatest QB in UK history” need to shhh.  Towles has a long way to grow and mature as a quarterback, and hasn’t even scratched into the top 3.

Some Had a Good Game Though…

Freshman running back Stanley Williams, referred to as “Boom” by the masses, had a career game for the Wildcats.  He set a new career high with 58 receiving yards on five catches, which are both team bests.  He also rushed a career high 12 times for 39 yards.  Austin MacGinnis had another great game and was responsible for the only points on Kentucky’s side of the score board for the majority of the game.  This redshirt freshman continues to be a staple for the Wildcats’ offensive efforts, and deserves a little more credit than he typically gets.  So, through the many curse words and drunken slurs that will surely be dedicated to the Cats tonight, don’t forget at least one of these guys, and commend their efforts.

The SEC

It’s now a free for all.  Missouri has now risen to the number one spot in the SEC East.  Florida won the cocktail, meaning that Georgia falls in right behind them in third place, and right before Kentucky.  Next weeks’ game will determine if Kentucky really has improved enough in the East to consider themselves top three.  A win next week will also make us bowl eligible.  A loss next week will make me think that we’ll be heading to the huge sinkhole outside the William T. Young library… AKA “The Bowl.”  As far as the SEC West is concerned, and at least for this moment that my fingers hit these keys***, Arkansas, the worst team in the West, is beating Mississippi State, the best team in the country.  Because I hadn’t even entertained the thought of a loss, I don’t even know what a loss to the Razorbacks would do to the Bulldog’s Playoff chances.  I can only assume it would not be a good thing.

***Arkansas ended up losing, but this proved my point.  Everyone beating on everyone…

But Basketball Starts Tomorrow!

With all the sadness and Sam Smith songs that will surround your night tonight, remember, tomorrow is the beginning of basketball in the Bluegrass!!!! Calipari’s two platoon goons will tip off against Pikeville tomorrow night at 7 P.M. at Rupp Arena.  This will be the first look at the platoon system that we just can’t read enough about.  Cal plans on having 12 players getting playing time tomorrow, which is something that I simply cannot wait to witness.  I’ve created a drinking game for the 2014-2015 season.  Rules are as follows: 1). sip for every three 2). Water fall for every three goggle 3). Finish your drink every time theres a 5-for-5 sub.

Now that we’re getting into basketball season, I think we will be able to change our opinion of the SEC Network from “we hate noon games” to “thanks for broadcasting even our exhibition games.”  For those of you cursed with TWC, that means the game will be on channel 516.  Yayyyyyyyy.

Hoops Tickets Going for Free.99

That’s right folks.  Tickets to the Kentucky v. Baylor game in Rupp Arena are being given away… FOR FREE!  The women’s basketball team plays in Rupp Arena once a season, and Coach Matthew Mitchell is trying to make it the second consecutive year that every seat is filled.  As you may remember, the Hoops played the Lady Bears twice last year.  Their first meeting was the double-header in Dallas with the chrome uniforms, where the game went into four overtimes.  Kentucky got the better of the Baylor Bears, winning 133-130, but when the teams met again in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament, Baylor knocked UK out 90-72.  This game will be the tip-off to ESPN’s “24 Hours of College Hoops,” and is scheduled to begin at 7 P.M. Tickets are available here and at your friendly neighborhood Kroger.  Pick some up the next time you go to visit Wilder.

That’s all for tonight my friends.  Tomorrow, Wilder and I will be taking over KSR permanently for the afternoon leading up to the game.  Until then, follow me on twitter.  You won’t be disappointed… unless you’re my parents.
