John Calipari is making unusually early moves in the recruiting world.

According to multiple reports, Kentucky has extended an offer to class of 2024 small forward Amier Ali. He is the first from this group of high school sophomores with a known offer from the Wildcats.

Ali clocks in at 6-foot-8, 175 pounds, playing his high school ball at a powerhouse program in Montverde Academy (FL), which recently won the 2022 GEICO Nationals. He is considered one of the best sophomores in the country right now and was recently ranked No. 23 overall in the initial On3 2024 player rankings that were released earlier this week. His breakout campaign has only just begun.

Calipari doesn’t typically extend scholarships to recruits ahead of their junior season in high school, but Ali appears to be an exception. Over the last 24 hours, he’s also hauled in offers from Kansas and Kansas State. Previously, he received offers from the likes of Virginia Tech, LSU, Wake Forest, and Ohio State. Ali has been a standout performer early on during this spring’s AAU circuit for Houston Hoops (EYBL), drawing plenty of attention from big-name programs.

Playing up a year for the U17 squad, Ali helped lead Houston Hoops to a 2-2 record this past weekend in Orlando. He averaged 15.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest while shooting over 41 percent from distance across those four outings. Additionally, Ali was a participant in the 2021 USA Men’s U16 National Team training camp.

Ali’s sophomore teammate at Montverde, 6-foot-9 power forward Derik Queen, is also ranked by On3 as a top 25 prospect, checking in at No. 10 overall. Queen is receiving interest from Kentucky as well but has not been offered.
