A few months ago, folks were questioning when/if Calipari was going to start landing elite recruits for his 2012 class. Goodwin, Cauley, and Poythress have shut up all those naysayers. And don't be surprised if Shabazz Muhammad does the same. Cal is certainly not done with the 2012 class...
But he's already well entrenched with 2013 recruits. We've heard that UK's top targets in 2013 are the Harrison twins (from their camp, I believe). Now we are seeing Coach Cal make a push for the #1 player in 2013.
Cal and Payne visited Chicago to watch 2013 #1 stud Jabari Parker today.
Parker is a phenom in a similar fashion to Shabazz. Many people have more or less counted Kentucky out of this race as they haven't shown a crazy amount of love to this superstar, which is what other schools have been doing for some time.
Kentucky with Cal is different. They can wait around and then show a great deal of interest in a recruit and still be able to land the kid. The power of UK recruiting is at an all-time high, and there's a serious chance Kentucky could end up with Parker as their prized 2013 guy. Reports are coming out that Parker's father says that UK is making Jabari their #1 target in 2013. He's insanely talented. Let's get him (and the Harrison twins to boot).
Ummmmmm....you're fired.
In this crazy alternate universe created by the Sandusky incident, the dominoes are falling out in upstate New York with a similar scandal. I was wary of believing the details of this ordeal at first, but things are coming to light to make me queazy to my stomach once again. Because of recent developments,
Syracuse has fired assistant coach Bernie Fine. I'm not going to get into the details of this ordeal, but it does have ramifications.
If you'd like to hear/read more about it, take a look at the tapes and statements from Fine's wife that have people in an uproar. Several days after vehemently defending his guy,
Jim Boeheim nows has to watch Fine get canned and look like a terrible man. People are already calling for Boeheim's head as well. Will the chips continue to fall until the head coach takes a dive? We will see. Keep in mind that former Kentucky 2012 recruit
Dajuan Coleman is signed to Syracuse. If his head coach leaves and a scandal is on the heels of his future team, will he want/be allowed to reconsider his options? If I were him, I know I'd like to take a step back and re-evaluate my situation.
UPDATE:
Boeheim's statement for those interested...
"The allegations that have come forth today are disturbing and deeply troubling. I am personally very shocked because I have never witnessed any of the activities that have been alleged," said Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim in a statement. "I believe the university took the appropriate step tonight. What is most important is that this matter be fully investigated and that anyone with information be supported to come forward so that the truth can be found. I deeply regret any statements I made that might have inhibited that from occurring or been insensitive to victims of abuse."
