Craig Skinner gets six-year extension

Congrats to UK Volleyball Coach Craig Skinner, who received a new six-year $1,125,000 deal from the university this morning. The extension, which includes opportunities for incentives, follows the volleyball team’s second consecutive Sweet 16 finish, and the seventh consecutive tournament appearance.

Mitch Barnhart said that the deal is “an effort to keep greatness here” in case other schools attempt to lure Skinner away. Skinner, who just finished his eighth season at Kentucky, said he came to Lexington to “build a program of national relevance,” and cited the success of other teams and the buzz surrounding the football program as proof that it’s “an exciting time at the University of Kentucky.”

I interviewed Skinner a few weeks ago about this team’s success and the growing popularity of volleyball at Kentucky. Check it out for some more insight into the man behind the team with the tiny shorts.
