It’s officially, official. Cutter Boley is QB1 for Kentucky.

The redshirt freshman from Hodgenville took the top spot on the depth chart ahead of Saturday’s road trip to South Carolina. Following Boley’s start against Eastern Michigan, Mark Stoops wasn’t ready to say that the job was Boley’s for good.

“I was pleased with the way he operated,” Stoops said of Boley after the 48-23 win. “I really was. I don’t think it would be right for me to make that decision right here and now. I was pleased with the way he played. We’ll get some time, look at it, and get back on the practice field.”

Boley completed 12-21 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns in the victory at Kroger Field, his first win as a Kentucky starter. He also logged a start as a true freshman in the 2024 season finale against Louisville.

Boley first saw action against Ole Miss when Zach Calzada suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder. The college football journeyman was unable to throw a football ahead of the Eastern Michigan win. We’ll learn more about his health, and the reason behind Stoops’ decision to hand the reins to Boley, when the head coach speaks with the media at noon.
