Cutter Boley had a Historic Performance in the Loss to Tennessee

Cutter Boley has to serve as the light at the end of the tunnel for Mark Stoops’ Kentucky football program. It’s an impossible task, and yet, the redshirt freshman quarterback continues to improve every single week.
After setting the UK freshman record for completion percentage (79%) and accounting for more than 300 yards of offense against a top-five Texas defense, Boley decided to break even more records. There are a lot of superlatives, so let me condense them as best I can.
— It was Kentucky’s first game against a Power Conference foe with 3+ touchdowns since 2023.
— The last player to throw for four TDs against a Power Conference foe was Boley’s coach, Mike Hartline, against Georgia in 2010.
— Boley shattered the Kentucky freshman passing touchdown record with five. Morgan Newton and Jared Lorenzen each threw for three during their freshman campaigns.
— Boley’s five touchdown passes were the most by a Kentucky quarterback since Andre’ Woodson tossed six against Tennessee in 2007.
“It’s a blessing for sure,” Boley said after the game. “Growing up watching all of these guys, even before I was born, watching some of them ball out, it’s an extreme honor to be able to start in this position and represent the state. We’re just trying to do the best we can out there, put it all together.”
Boley finished the night 26-35 (74%) for 330 yards, five touchdowns, and an interception on a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage. He had two receivers, Kendrick Law and DJ Miller, tally 100 receiving yards, something Kentucky hasn’t had against an SEC opponent since 2011.

“We got a lot of good, young talent on this team all over the place, defense, offense, everything,” said the Kentucky quarterback. “I think these guys are really encouraged.”
Kentucky was methodical against Texas. Boley created explosives against Tennessee. They gained 239 yards through the air on seven passes of 15+ yards. Miller scored from 56 yards out and Law had a 71-yard touchdown. It’s been three years since Kentucky had two explosive passing touchdowns from 56+ yards.
“Who knows what his ceiling is, right? He’s only a redshirt freshman,” said Mark Stoops. “Is it his third start for us? Pretty impressive against some very good defenses. And so, very happy with that and as you can see, when he’s playing at that level, it makes everybody better. The tight ends are catching the ball, the receivers are making very nice catches and explosive plays.”
“He’s tough,” added Bush Hamdan. “He doesn’t get too high and too low, and he continues to just keep getting better, and I think that’s a sign of a great player.”
