The SEC Freshman of the Week is turning into the Cutter Boley Award. For the third straight week, the redshirt freshman Kentucky quarterback has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

Even though it was an FCS foe, Boley’s brilliance was undeniable. He only threw three incomplete passes. Over the last five games, he’s completed 75.5% of his passes (111-147). The Hodgenville native is the first UK quarterback with a completion percentage of at least 74% in four games (min. 20 attempts) in one season since Tim Couch in 1998. Not too shabby.

Boley threw for 236 yards and one touchdown in the 42-10 victory over Tennessee Tech, orchestrating touchdown drives on 6-8 possessions. He connected on two strikes of 40+ yards, including that 45-yard score to Hardley Gilmore, but his most impressive play of the day was with his legs, a 30-yard rushing touchdown that ended with an exclamation point.

“I was a little bit dumbfounded,” Mark Stoops admitted after the game. “Then I said, ‘Did he score?’ I mean, he scored. So, you know what? That’s fun.”

It was so much fun, let’s watch it again.

Cutter Boley is the first Wildcat quarterback with a 45-yard passing touchdown and a 30-yard rushing TD in the same game since Pookie Jones vs. Kent State on Sept. 4, 1993. That’s a long time. Hopefully, QB1 has a few more big plays up his sleeve for the final two weeks of the regular season.
