Dan Dakich suspended from ESPN radio show for failure of 'journalistic principles'

by:Jack Pilgrim10/21/19
ESPN commentator Dan Dakich has been suspended from his afternoon sports talk show. Emmis Communications, which owns ESPN affiliate WFNI The Fan, said Dakich has been suspended five days due to "a failure last year on Dan's part to adhere to the journalistic principles valued by Emmis." Dakich, who played basketball at Indiana from 1981-85 under Bob Knight and coached at Bowling Green from 1997-2007, is the host of "The Dan Dakich Show" on 1070 The Fan, along with joining ESPN as a college basketball color commentator and studio analyst in November 2010. According to a report by the Indy Star, Emmis "declined to further elaborate on the cause for the disciplinary action taken against Dakich," adding that the 57-year old radio host did not respond to a text message from the outlet asking for comment. This afternoon, a statement was made on Dakich's show - which airs noon to 3 p.m. weekdays on 1070 AM - to address his absence. "Dan Dakich will not be appearing on his show this week. Dan and Emmis have mutually agreed to a suspension period of five days due to a failure last year on Dan's part to adhere to the journalistic principles valued by Emmis," the statement read, via Indy Star.
