Davion Mintz is headed to New Orleans this week after all. The Kentucky graduate guard will participate in the State Farm College Men’s 3-Point Championship on Thursday, March 31, and the Reese’s College All-Star Game on Friday, April 1.

The 3-Point Championship starts at 9 p.m. ET Thursday at Xavier University of Louisiana’s Convocation Center and will be televised on ESPN. Rhyne Howard will represent Kentucky in the Women’s 3-Point Championship. The Slam Dunk Championship will also be held Thursday night at the same venue. (Where’s Jacob Toppin’s invite?) The Reese’s College All-Star Game features the top seniors in college basketball. It takes place on Friday at the Ceasars Superdome at 4:35 p.m. ET. Mintz is the second Kentucky player to participate in the event, joining Derek Willis, who earned West Team MVP honors in 2017.

Mintz, the winner of the 2020 Big Blue Madness 3-Point Contest, averaged 9.8 points per game over his two seasons at Kentucky, connecting on 100 3-pointers at a 36.1% rate. In Kentucky’s 92-64 win over South Carolina near the end of the 2020-21 season, he hit a career-high six threes. He came close to tying that mark this season, hitting five threes in a 92-77 win over Georgia on Jan. 8. He will graduate with a master’s degree in kinesiology and health promotion with an emphasis in sport leadership in May.

Joining Mintz in the Men’s 3-Point Championship so far is Purdue’s Sasha Stefanovic, Wyoming’s Drake Jeffries, Illinois’ Alfonso Plummer, Iowa’s Jordan Bohannon, Yeshiva’s Ryan Turell, and Wisconsin’s Brad Davison. Mintz is the fourth Kentucky player to participate in the 3-point event dating back to its inception in 1989. He joins Gerald Fitch (2004), Scott Padgett (1999), and Travis Ford (1994) in the collegiate contest. Chuck Hayes (2005) is the only Kentucky player to participate in the dunk challenge portion of Thursday’s events.

If you happen to be in New Orleans this weekend (non-refundable ticket, eh?), you can go cheer Mintz and Howard on in person. Individual tickets for the State Farm 3-Point Championship and Slam Dunk Contest begin at $15 and special rates for groups of 10 or more are also available at collegeslam.com/tickets
