De'Aaron Fox to undergo season-ending finger surgery

If you are a current or former Kentucky basketball player this season, you probably should look both ways about three or four times before crossing the street. The injury bug–err, semi-truck– has been rampaging nearly everyone in sight and its latest victim is De’Aaron Fox.

Shams Charania reported that Fox will undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday to repair tendon damage on his left pinky finger. Yes, that is his shooting hand. The injury occurred during training camp in October, but Fox has played through the ailment all season. He also passed a physical when the Kings traded him to the San Antonio Spurs at the deadline, per his request.

The Spurs, already without generational superstar Victor Wembanyama for the remainder of the season, will now shift its focus to getting younger guys minutes. In other words, they will tank as many games as possible to improve their draft position in the 2025 NBA Lottery.

Performing the pinky surgery now as opposed to waiting until after the season ends will give it more time to heal but will also send Spurs fans crying, “Wee wee wee” all the way home, as there will be limited reasons to attend the team’s remaining games.

Fox appeared in 62 games this season, 45 for the Kings and 17 for the Spurs. He averaged 25 points per game with Sacramento, but that number dipped to 19.7 points per game with San Antonio. He did, however, post the only 60-point game scored by any player all season back in November, a Kings’ franchise record.
