DeMarcus Cousins officially signs with Denver Nuggets

It’s been roughly two weeks in the making, but DeMarcus Cousins is finally making his way to Denver.
The former Kentucky Wildcat turned 10 year NBA veteran signed a 10-day contract with the Denver Nuggets on Friday, per a press release from the Nuggets. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski initially reported on Friday morning that the move was imminent.
Cousins will wear No. 4 for the Nuggets.
It was first reported on Jan. 9 that Cousins would eventually sign with the Nuggets following a trip to Denver and subsequent physical. 12 days later, it would appear that all the T’s have been crossed and the I’s dotted.
Cousins began the 2021-22 season as a free agent before he was picked up by the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 30. Through 17 games with the Bucks, he averaged 9.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per outing while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor. Cousins even started five games for Milwaukee, filling in for the usual starting center Brook Lopez, who has been sidelined most of the season due to an injury.

Milwaukee waived Cousins on Jan. 6, making the 31-year-old an unrestricted free agent. Conversations between Cousins and the Nuggets have been going on for two weeks now, according to Wojnarowski, and he will be eligible for Denver’s six upcoming games, beginning Friday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Denver is currently 6th in the NBA’s Western Conference with an overall record of 23-20. Reigning MVP Nikola Jokic is playing even better than he did a season ago despite Jamal Murray still sitting on the sideline as he recovers from an ACL tear. There is growing hope in Denver that Murray could return in time for the postseason. The Nuggets also went out and traded for sharpshooter Bryn Forbes, a win-now type of move that indicates Denver is gunning for an NBA title right now.
Cousins could be a much-welcome addition to a Nuggets frontcourt that is lacking size off the bench.
