DeMarcus Cousins suspended for rest of season, contract terminated following wild ejection

DeMarcus Cousins will not play another game this season in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) after getting into a near-brawl with a group of fans earlier this week in Puerto Rico.
The BSN announced the decision to suspend Cousins, who plays for the Mets de Guaynabo, for the remainder of the 2025 season on Wednesday, adding that he has been hit with a $4,250 fine for “a disqualifying foul, a technical foul, and acts that incite violence or provocation.” The press release also states that Cousins could receive a fine of up to $10,000 and that he must explain to the league why he should not be fined the additional $5,750.
ESPN reports his contract with Mets de Guaynabo has been terminated.
Along with Cousins, a handful of fans at the game have also been suspended for the rest of the season for their role in this big mess, the league announced. The home team, Vaqueros de Bayamón, has been informed that another incident such as this one could result in home games being relocated.

The incident occurred on Monday when Cousins was seen on video engaging in multiple confrontations with opposing fans.
One clip shows Cousins and a courtside fan having to be separated after the fan gave Cousins the bird, who responded with a… well… inappropriate gesture (which the tweet above explains). That quickly led to his ejection. An ensuing clip shows Boogie having to be brought to the ground by arena security after fans began to throw drinks on him as he was attempting to leave the floor. Prior to his ejection, Cousins had recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Cousins, 34, has been playing basketball outside of the United States since 2023. The four-time NBA All-Star has spent time in Puerto Rico, Taiwan, and Mongolia over the last couple of years. This is the former Kentucky Wildcats’ (2009-10) second stint with the Mets de Guaynabo. Prior to his suspension, he was credited with having played 10 games so far this season, averaging 18.2 points, nine rebounds, and 4.7 assists per outing.
