Deone Walker turned heads throughout the 2022 season. Regarded as one of the best college football players in the freshman class, AP pollsters believe he’s one of the SEC’s best defensive linemen, period.

Following his first season in Lexington Deone Walker was a Second Team All-SEC selection by the Associated Press. Walker was Kentucky’s only All-SEC selection. He was joined by two other true freshmen, Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins and LSU LB Harold Perkins.

The 6-foot-6, 350-pounder from Detroit was Kentucky’s most productive defensive lineman, leading the unit in every major statistical category with 39 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack. He also had a pair of pass break-ups, five quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. Deone Walker was named SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week following his performance against Louisville. He recently earned Freshman All-American honors from Pro Football Focus.

Tennessee took home two of the four major postseason awards. Josh Heupel was named Coach of the Year and Hendon Hooker was Offensive Player of the Year. Alabama’s Will Anderson earned Defensive Player of the Year Honors, as Judkins, the league’s leading rusher, received Newcomer of the Year honors.
