Get ready to hear more of this between now and the start of the 2023 season. Kentucky defensive lineman Deone Walker is being recognized as one of the Southeastern Conference’s top players.

On Tuesday, our good friends over at On3 unveiled their preseason All-SEC team for the upcoming football season. Walker, who is listed in the article as a defensive tackle, was the lone Wildcat named to the list. The 6-foot-6, 350-pound product of Detroit (MI) Cass Tech is considered a future first-round NFL Draft pick and is primed for a massive sophomore campaign in 2023 for Kentucky.

Here is what On3 wrote about Walker.

Walker enters 2023 looking to build upon an impressive true freshman season with the Wildcats. He started 11 of 13 games to record 40 tackles (4.5 for loss), a sack and five quarterback hurries while being named a Freshman All-American by several outlets, including On3.

Kentucky ranked as the No. 49 rushing defense in the country this past season in part because of Walker. With him back this year, the Wildcats will once again prove a problem for opposing running backs.

On3 Staff

Walker is generating a ton of hype heading into year two. He’s already been named a preseason First-Team All-SEC player and a preseason Second-Team All-American by Phil Steele. Walker had a banner year in 2022 for Kentucky, earning first-team freshman All-American honors after recording 40 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups.

As for the rest of On3’s preseason All-SEC Team, Georgia led the way with the most players of any program at seven. LSU isn’t too far behind with five members while Alabama comes in with three. Arkansas and Missouri both boast a pair of players while Kentucky, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Texas A&M all have one. The likes of Tennessee, Florida, Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Mississippi State did not have any representatives.
