A couple of months ago as I was returning from my sojourn with fellow KSR Blogger "Mosley", I stopped in a small town called Vermillion, South Dakota, the home of South Dakota University. Mosley and I went there on a Friday night, looking for a high school football game, but as per usual, we ended up goofing around with the natives and hanging out at a bowling alley/restaurant with some South Dakota college students. When they found out we were from Kentucky, the girls all ooh and ahhed at our accents, but the guys all said the same thing, "Do you know Desmond Allison?" They spoke of Allison like he was a folk hero, a great guy who was the Big Man on Campus. We were surprised to find out that Desmond was a student at South Dakota and was playing FOOTBALL for the college team.
I say that all as background because I considered coming back and telling that story on the blog.....but then I realized I could never make it as melodramatic and sappy as George Michael did on the "Sports Machine":
