For the second straight season, two former Kentucky Wildcats are taking their talents to Colorado to play for Coach Prime.

Keaten Wade announced via Instagram that he is heading to Boulder after two years in Lexington. His brother, Destin Wade, also announced his commitment to Colorado.

The twins from Central Tennessee were four-star talents when they committed to Kentucky in the 2022 recruiting class. Keaten received reps as a true freshman, then tallied 35 tackles, 3.0 for loss and a sack this fall as a regular rotational player on the Kentucky defense. Destin was a backup quarterback that started in last year’s Music City Bowl loss to Iowa.

Shortly after the brothers entered the transfer portal, their father shared some choice words for the coaching staff. Steve Wade said the Kentucky coaches “didn’t keep their promises” by limiting Destin Wade’s opportunity to play.

“Destin could have been just as good as that quarterback we had this year (Leary),” Steve Wade said in the interview with the Wades’ hometown media outlet. “There’s nothing any of those guys sitting in that quarterback couldn’t have done (that Leary did). They didn’t give him an opportunity to even compete. So we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do. He’s got to get on the field somewhere.”

It’s unlikely that we’ll see Destin Wade on the field this fall. Shedeur Sanders, the head coach’s son, will begin the 2024 season as a Heisman Trophy candidate. The previous to players to move from Kentucky to Colorado did not play much either. Vito Tisdale appeared in three games and Kavosiey Smoke had only two rushing attempts for -2 yards.

The news comes a day after Colorado received a significant commitment from the SEC. Will Sheppard tallied more than 2,000 receiving yards at Vanderbilt before announcing his intent to finish his college career catching passes for Shedeur Sanders.
