Devin Booker among NBA 2K24's top 10 highest-rated players
Devin Booker is one of the best basketball players in the entire world — we know that already. But it’s always fun to see a talent of his caliber (especially one with Kentucky ties) receiving some much-deserved praise, even if it is for a video game.
When NBA 2K24 drops on September 8, 2023, Booker will be among the 10 highest-ranked players in the game. On Wednesday, the folks over at 2K Games unveiled Booker as the ninth-best player in the newest edition of the popular video game series, earning a rating of 94 overall. He is sandwiched between a pair of perennial NBA All-Stars, Kawhi Leonard (8th) and Damian Lillard (10th), who also picked up 94 ratings.
Booker is the only former Kentucky player to crack the top 10, which was headlined by two-time MVP Nikola Jokic (98 overall). Jokic was followed, in order, by Giannis Antetokounmpo (96), LeBron James (96), Joel Embiid (96), Kevin Durant (96), Stephen Curry (96), Luka Doncic (95), Jayson Tatum (95), and Jimmy Butler (95).
Booker being ranked so high is certainly justified. He’s coming off the best statistical season of his time in the NBA so far, averaging a career-best 27.8 points along with 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. The three-time All-Star shot 49.4 percent overall (also a career-high), 35.1 percent from long range, and 85.5 percent from the free throw line. Had he not missed 29 games due to injury, Booker likely would have made his fourth consecutive All-Star Game and his second straight All-NBA appearance.
Only 26 years old, Booker is still on the rise. After making the NBA Finals in 2020-21 with the Phoenix Suns, he was teamed up with fellow top 10 NBA 2K24 player Kevin Durant during the 2022-23 season. The Suns have even more talent heading into 2023-24 after trading for Bradley Beal during the offseason, along with the longtime presence of borderline All-Star center Deandre Ayton.
Typically, Kentucky has at least one former player crack NBA 2K‘s top 10 rated players year after year. Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns have been regularly ranked in the 90s since entering the NBA. In fact, those two are among the 30 highest-rated players (on average) throughout the game’s history, according to HoopsHype. Booker could soon join that club. He was ranked 90 overall in 2021-22 and 91 in 2022-23 before getting bumped up to 94 ahead of 2023-24.
