Dikembe Mutombo's son, Ryan, wants to be recruited by Kentucky

[caption id="attachment_274369" align="alignnone" width="1192"] Photo: 247Sports[/caption] The son of NBA Hall of Fame center and legendary shot-blocker, Dikembe Mutombo, wants to be recruited by John Calipari and the University of Kentucky. Ryan Mutombo, a four-star center in the class of 2021, currently holds offers from his father's alma mater, Georgetown, along with Georgia Tech, and Richmond, though he's hoping Kentucky reaches out in the very near future. “I’d like to hear from UVA, UNC, Kentucky would be nice, all of the big schools that kids dream about when they’re growing up,” Mutombo said in an interview with Evan Daniels of 247Sports. “I think it would just be like an awesome experience to get to visit one of those top schools.” The interview came during the annual Holiday Hoopsgiving event this past weekend in Atlanta, GA, where Daniels says his elite size - Mutombo stands 6-foot-11, 220 pounds - and length were impressive, but the junior prospect also shined offensively.

Mutombo’s pure size (6’11”) and length immediately stood out, but it was his scoring moves, feel for the game and passing ability that impressed throughout the game. With his father looking on, Mutombo nailed a pair of mid-range jumpers, connected on two hooks over his left shoulder and distributed the ball to his teammates with ease. To be blunt, it was impressive.

According to Mutombo, he works with his father, an eight-time NBA All-Star and four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, at least eight hours a week, with defense being an (obvious) point of emphasis. “He’s trying to give me those nuggets here and there,” Mutombo told Daniels. “He tells me to block everything. I go after every single ball when I’m down there. I’m really relentless. ... He tells me to never be rushed when I’m in the post. If I feel my man playing straight behind me, I need to face him up and go to work and make the right play.” As Daniels mentioned above, Mutombo also takes pride in passing and being unselfish on the floor. "I think my passing ability comes from being an unselfish player,” Mutombo told 247Sports. “My coach does a great job of teaching us to make sure that everybody is involved and I think that really carries over into the game. You saw me facilitating the ball, we got three threes in a row and that was huge for us.” After taking a quick stroll through YouTube, there is a (rather cringey) video posted by TMZ Sports back in June of 2018 with the interviewer hounding Dikembe Mutombo and his son about the 2021 prospect's future plans. When asked by the reporter what school he would like to eventually go to at the time, Ryan Mutombo said North Carolina. His father's response?
