DJ Wagner's No. 1 Fan Shares the John Calipari Arkansas Experience with Kentucky Fans

Coaching changes are often compared to a divorce. Similar to having a child, if you have a National Championship with that coach, one move is not breaking that link. You’re forever tied together. A year after the break-up with the long-time Kentucky head basketball coach, KSR got some perspective from an Arkansas Razorback.
Before he brought a DJ Wagner jersey to SEC Football Media Days, John Nabors was mixing it up with Kentucky fans while hosting Inside Arkansas at KSBar.
We saw John Calipari’s first season in Fayetteville through the lens of a person checking on their ex’s Instagram page. Nabors had a front-row seat to the madness. He was kind enough to talk with us about it, and frankly, it will sound familiar to many Kentucky basketball fans, with one exception.
“Kentucky fans told me I would have a fun regular season before flaming out in the Tournament,” said Nabors. “Where was the fun?”

Arkansas eventually got on track, in large part thanks to Kentucky. The Hogs were 1-6 in SEC play when John Calipari got his vengeance at Rupp Arena. Don’t worry. I wouldn’t let Nabors talk about one of his favorite wins for too long before bringing up another big lead that Calipari blew in the NCAA Tournament.
While it’s enlightening to hear the other side of the story from last season, the page has been turned. DJ Wagner is the only former Kentucky Wildcat still at Arkansas. There has been enough time to get over the break-up. Now, Mark Pope needs to beat Calipari, and he’ll have to do it on the road against what looks like an even better team. The Cats and Hogs could be at the top of the SEC when the teams meet this winter at Bud Walton. Prepare accordingly.
