Classes begin this coming week for University of Kentucky students but before everyone makes their way back on campus, players are maximizing their time. After winning a gold medal in Canada, incoming point guard, DJ Wagner, has not let off the gas. He showed out at the Nike Academy last week, the potential lottery pick was back in his hometown of Camden, NJ conducting the first-ever DJ Wagner Basketball Impact Pro Camp.

By all accounts (specifically the psjfilms account on Instagram), the camp looked to be a major success.

Many insiders will tell you that the makeup of a team can be seen in how well they interact during these summer camps with kids. Kentucky youth and parents alike raved about all the Kentucky basketball players at the John Calipari camps, but DJ Wagner took it to the next level and had one of his own.

Kentucky walk-ons, Kareem Watkins and Grant Darbyshire, also helped at the camp.

This type of willingness to give back to the community where he grew up is remarkable for someone only 18 years old and will fit well with the culture of Kentucky basketball. And just because providing a great basketball learning environment for his hometown wasn’t enough, Wagner is also organizing a school supply drive on Monday before returning to Lexington.

It is also worth noting this is yet another way players at Kentucky are using NIL for good. We saw JJ Weaver conduct a bike giveaway in his hometown of Louisville and now DJ Wagner is embracing this same mentality in New Jersey.

Kentucky got a good one in DJ Wagner both on and off the floor.
