Donnie Tyndall is back in College Basketball

One upon a time, Tyndall was the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers basketball program. That only lasted 11 months. Tyndall got the quick hook after NCAA investigators discovered he did quite a bit of cheating at Southern Miss, his previous head coaching stop. He provided financial benefits and fudged a few grades for junior college transfers. Now he's back in junior college. Tyndall was tagged with a 10-year show-cause penalty by the NCAA. The Morehead State alum who took the program to two NCAA Tournaments as a head coach still has six-plus years of that penalty to serve, but that penalty does not follow him to the JUCO ranks. This week he was introduced as the new men's head basketball coach of Chipola College in Marianna, Florida, his first college coaching gig since he was terminated by Tennessee in 2015. "Everybody in life goes through different adversities or different things that hit them right between the eyes for lack of a better term," Tyndall said Thursday when he was formally introduced. "I could bore you with a two hour story. Do I agree with the penalty that was given? 100% no. Do I take full responsibility because these happened under my watch? 100% yes... We've tried to look ahead and not to look back." Since Tyndall lost his gig with the Vols, he most recently served as the head coach for the G League's Grand Rapids Drive. His most noteworthy accomplishment during his time away from college hoops happened in the wrestling ring. Tyndall served as a manager for one match in East Tennessee's Global Force Wrestling, leaving the ring victorious after he made a babyface turn by nailing an unruly wrestler over the head with a clipboard. If he replicates that move at Chipola College, his show-cause may get extended another decade.
