Draft Express Takes On Enes Kanter - Plus Prep School Footage

For those of you that have been following the draft closely this may come as no surprise.  But for those of you who have not been, Enes Kanter has been getting some mixed reviews over the past week or so due to some recently released prep school footage as well as lack of real game film for GM’s to analyze.  I wouldn’t worry too much though, most of the negative speculation can be chalked up as media members looking for a ‘fresh angle’ heading up to the draft – especially when the draft class itself holds so little drama.  But never the less, some of the points raised are valid and worth considering.  I doubt they will cause any team to pass on him come draft day, but it’s worth looking at.

The site that has made the most hubbub over the Kanter footage has been Draft Express, mainly taking care to point out that he looked uninspired (and unsure what to do) on the defensive end in the game film they received of his prep school days.  It raises the question of ‘just how useful is nearly two year old game film,’ but as they put it, it’s about all there is to go on outside of private work outs and the Hoops Summit.

They also do a pretty thorough job explaining their thoughts on the positives and negatives associated with Enes Kanter, and it’s worth a read to get an outside Kentucky basketball perspective.  They do raise some legitimate concerns (namely – how will a year off from organized basketball affect Kanter,) but as I mentioned before, at this point – in this draft – I don’t expect the negatives to matter too much.  Barring some wild shift in the landscape I would be surprised not to see Enes suit up for the Cavaliers or at worst, Raptors, next season.
