ESPN ranked every Power 4 QB in the country (and it's not good for Kentucky)

Kentucky’s quarterback situation has… not been all that promising through the first four games of the season. The folks over at ESPN believe it’s one of the worst in all of Division I college football.

On Wednesday morning, Bill Connelly ranked every single Power 4 conference team’s quarterback(s). And you have to scroll allllll the way down to find the Wildcats. The quarterback duo of Cutter Boley and Zach Calzada ranks dead last on the list — 68th out of 68 possible teams. They’ve combined to post a total quarterback rating of 25.4 with a combined 636 passing yards and just three touchdowns.

Boley’s performance against Eastern Michigan is the only positive to take away from Kentucky’s quarterback spot after the first few weeks of the 2025 season.

“Boley threw for 240 yards against Eastern Michigan, with seven completions over 20 yards,” Connelly wrote. “Against three defenses ranked higher than 135th in SP+, however, he and Calzada have gone a combined 36-for-75 for 396 yards with two interceptions and nine sacks. And 53 of those yards came on a single dump-off pass. The QB position offered almost nothing for UK last season, and it’s offering even less in 2025.

Even North Carolina’s Gio Lopez, who has a QBR of just 16.3 this season, ranks a couple of spots ahead of UK. Central Florida, which has three injured quarterbacks, checked in at No. 53. Coming in at 64th was West Virginia, which Connelly described as “two or three square pegs for round holes.” All of them were ranked higher than the ‘Cats. Ouch…

As harsh as all that may seem, it’s hard to argue against Connelly here. Calzada was not productive in his two games under center. He threw for just 85 yards and a pick against Toledo before throwing for 149 yards against Ole Miss, a game he was ultimately injured in. Boley has replaced him ever since. And while the EMU game was positive (240 yards, 2 TDs), he — and the rest of the Wildcats — struggled in last weekend’s road loss to South Carolina.

Good thing Kentucky doesn’t have another tough opponent waiting for them this weekend, right?

Wait, what’s that? The ‘Cats head to Athens this weekend?

Ah. Nevertheless…
