ESPN thinks there are at least 25 teams better than Kentucky WBB (including... Richmond?)

We’ve spent all offseason talking about how good this year’s Kentucky women’s basketball team can (and should) be. Sure, losing Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence hurts, but they returned the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, have five seniors and brought in a talented group of underclassmen, including a top 15 freshman.

Surely, the team that finished No. 16 in the AP Poll a year ago could fit in somewhere in the Preseason Top 25, right? Not according to ESPN.

The four-letter sports media empire and their writers did not include the Cats in their Preseason Top 25 — just sliding them in the “also considered” category alongside Ohio State and Princeton. You know who was ranked, however? The Richmond Spiders, who sit at No. 19.

Yes, a mid-major team that lost to teams such as 12-19 Georgetown, 15-15 Fordham, and Saint Joseph’s last season. Their most impactful transfer portal addition, according to ESPN? Tierra Simon, a St. Louis transfer who didn’t even average double figures in the scoring column a year ago.

What are we doing, ESPN? Just trying to rile up Big Blue Nation? Is it pure incompetence? Who knows, but it won’t be too long before Kenny Brooks and the Cats go out and prove the doubters on the national level wrong.
