ESPN to feature documentary on Kentucky versus LSU miracles

No one is going to confuse LSU and Kentucky as a rivalry in either basketball or football, but the two teams have played in two of the most miraculous games in SEC history against each other. Now, ESPN will feature the Bluegrass Miracle and the Mardi Gras Miracle in the same documentary, aptly titled Miracles.
In 1994, the Mardi Gras miracle saw Kentucky basketball pull off an improbable 31-point comeback with 15 minutes left in the game to steal a win on the road. Then, just eight years later in 2002, LSU completed a 75-yard bomb with two seconds left to walk off a victory at Commonwealth Stadium with fans and students already hanging from the goalpost, ready to rip them down.

I was under said goalpost, ready to help in the destruction, when I saw the horror unfold on the Jumbotron. ESPN did not reach out to me for comment, but they did speak to several players and coaches from the events.
Director Tim Horgan had big things to say about the film:
“Early on, we had our own ideas about why these games mattered and how they were connected, but then each interview uncovered something new and surprising that shifted the direction that the narrative took. This film was truly a living, breathing thing that was shaped by the memories of those involved. In their stories, a coincidence became something cosmic.”
Miracles will debut at the same time Kentucky tips off against Georgetown in their second exhibition game, Thursday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m., a surprising programming decision. However, in the streaming era, airtimes don’t matter as much as they did in 1994 and 2002. It could make for a good post-win celebration viewing on Thursday.
