The halftime score was closer than expected, but Kentucky was never truly in danger.

The No. 13 Wildcats (2-1) took care of the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers (1-3) on Tuesday night in Rupp Arena by a final score of 80-55. Oscar Tshiebwe led the way for Kentucky, posting his third consecutive double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds on 11-14 shooting. TyTy Washington, Sahvir Wheeler, and Keion Brooks Jr. also recorded double-digits in scoring while Wheeler added eight assists, as well.

The two teams stayed close throughout the first few minutes before Kentucky slowly began to break away. Mount St. Mary’s would always manage to keep the action competitive though, trailing by 11 at the half. But in reality, UK was in control. The Mountaineers shot just 35 percent from the floor and 30 from deep while turning the ball over six times in the opening 20 minutes.

It didn’t take long for the ‘Cats to impose its will out of the locker room. Kentucky quickly rattled off a 13-0 run that ballooned into a 23-5 stretch. Halfway through the second half, the game was decided. UK won the final 20 minutes 42-28, finishing with the 25-point win.

Kentucky shot 53 percent from the field, 4-10 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. UK had 30 more paint points than MSM.
