From the opening tip to the final buzzer, the now 27-0 (14-0 SEC) No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks held firm control of this game, and Kentucky ate their 17th loss of the season in a 103-55 defeat.

Senior Ajae Petty was the main contributor for the Wildcats today as she recorded 16 points 6-10 (60%) shooting along with a team-high eight rebounds as well. Not having to go against 6-7 Kamilla Cardoso certainly helped Petty in her effort, but against one of the deepest frontcourts in the nation, it was hard for her to put up one of her signature double-double statlines.

As a whole, Kentucky just couldn’t keep up. It was like bringing a knife to a gun fight, except the knife is actually just a plastic G.I. Joe costume accessory. The ‘Cats shot just 22-65 (34%) from the field while South Carolina shot 38-59 (64%). Dawn Staley racked up her 601st career win at Rupp Arena today as Kentucky loses by 48 points in the process.

This game started about exactly how you’d expect it. Despite All-American candidate and South Carolina Gamecock Kamilla Cardoso being sidelined to rest, Dawn Staley’s crew was out and running in a hurry. By the end of the first quarter, it was 25-8 in favor of South Carolina. The deficit only swelled from there as it was 42-22 at the half.

Unfortunately, the second half was more of the same. When Kentucky was trounced by a whopping 62 points the first go around, it became apparent that the difference in talent between the two teams was day and night. The Gamecocks advance to 27-0 (14-0 SEC), and it seems like nothing will be able to stop them en route to a third national championship since 2017.

Next up for Kentucky is Ole Miss (19-7; 9-4 SEC) in what will be the last home game of the year for the ‘Cats. As of now, Kentucky is 10-6 at home, and they’ll look at add another game to the win column against the Rebels who are winners of three straight. Ole Miss is fighting for a double-bye bid in the SEC Tournament, so expect them to be firing on all cylinders when they come into Lexington. The game starts at 7:00 p.m., and it will be streamed on SEC Network+.
