First Down Kentucky: An Outstanding Brock Vandagriff Visual

Brock Vandagriff just completed his first spring practice with the Kentucky Wildcats. He gave the BBN a few reasons to be excited about what’s to come this fall.

His passes aren’t the only thing turning heads.

Vandagriff is bringing his own unique style to the University of Kentucky. It’s not exactly what some would consider high fashion, unless you’re a Dad who just wants to get your yardwork done so you can enjoy a couple of cold ones.

Take a closer look and you’ll notice he’s rocking a phone clip on his belt. That’s my kinda quarterback. We need an advertiser to step up to the plate to offer Vandagriff licensed cell phone accessories to make sure the BBN is ready for Belt Clip Brock.

Latest NFL Draft Projects for Kentucky Wildcats

We are eight days away from the start of the NFL Draft. We’ll only need to wait nine in order to hear the name of a Kentucky Wildcat called, according to Mel Kiper. The longtime ESPN NFL Draft analyst is predicting cornerback Dru Phillips will be selected with the second to last pick of the second round at No. 63 overall to the San Francisco 49ers.

Phillips and Trevin Wallace are finishing up their final Top 30 visits this week. Jordan Schultz reports Wallace is meeting with the San Francisco 49ers this afternoon.

Elsewhere around the NFL Draft world, ESPN’s Jordan Reid released his final Top 400 rankings ahead of the event in Detroit. He has four Wildcats in his Draft projections and is much more bullish on Ray Davis than most.

No. 71 Andru Phillips (3rd Round)
No. 103 Trevin Wallace (3rd round)
No. 106 Ray Davis (3rd round)
No. 294 Jeremy Flax (7th round)
No. 323 Devin Leary (UDFA)
No. 256 Tayvion Robinson (UDFA)
No. 396 Brenden Bates (UDFA)

The Latest on Martels Carter Jr.

Earlier this spring, Kentucky appeared to be in a position to land an early commitment from the top-ranked player in the state. Paducah Tilghman’s Martels Carter Jr. is the No. 187 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Multiple picks for Kentucky in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) were logged in the month of February, including one from On3’s Chad Simmons.

Carter did not pull the trigger right away. Instead of making the leap, he narrowed his list of options and planned official visits. In June he’ll take trips to Michigan, Auburn, and Kentucky. In the last week, he participated in the UA Next Nashville camp and was named MVP of the defensive backs. Vince Marrow still has Kentucky in a good spot, but Carter is going to play out the entire recruiting process.

Mic’d Up on the Kentucky Offensive Line

Eric Wolford has developed a reputation as a strict, no-nonsense coach. Would a no-nonsense coach be talking about Sesame Street during Kentucky football practice? That’s what happened when the Ky Wildcats TV crew mic’d up the offensive line coach for a spring practice.

The BBN gets a chance to watch Wolford operate with the Wildcats. There are a few lighter moments, but he spends most of the time with his offensive line emphasizing speed, bend, and toughness. “Put your hands on ’em. Hand violence! Heavy-handed guys win.”
