A former Kentucky Wildcat is once again on the move. The college football season kicks off in two weeks. It’s not the ideal time to enter the transfer portal, yet this cornerback had seen enough of the new regime in West Lafayette.

On3’s Matt Zenitz reports Jamari Brown is transferring from Purdue. The cornerback survived spring practice and almost an entire fall camp with former Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters, but decided to depart Purdue with the season-opener against Fresno State on the horizon.

Jamari Brown started in 13 games over two seasons for the Boilermakers. Last fall he was tied for first on the team in interceptions with three. During his two years in the Big Ten he tallied nine pass deflections and a pair of forced fumbles.

A South Florida native, he was a three-star prospect when he signed with Kentucky in the class of 2018. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound athlete fit the big build the Cats like in their cornerbacks. He redshirted during his first season on campus. Brown worked his way into the rotation the following year, tallying seven pass deflections and a fumble recovery for a group that finished ranked second nationally in pass defense.

Despite some success as a redshirt freshman, injuries and the emergence of Brandin Echols relegated his role on the UK defense. He ultimately sought out greener pastures in the Big Ten and appeared to be playing well.

Not every fit is perfect. There are plenty of defectors following every coaching change. The timing of this is odd. Nevertheless, best of luck to Brown at his next stop.
