Former Louisville football player explains importance of setting rivalry aside in donation to family of Jared Lorenzen

On Monday, we learned that former Louisville offensive lineman Jamon Brown, now a member of the Atlanta Falcons, had donated $5,000 through to Jared Lorenzen's family to help cover funeral costs.
He never met Jared Lorenzen, they played on opposite sides of the state's big football rivalry - almost a decade apart, mind you - and grew up in different parts of Kentucky. Even still, the former Cardinal felt compelled to help out a Kentucky football legend out of pure respect.
“I guess you can say he was a legend in the state of Kentucky, and for me, it’s important to pay respect to those who came before me, whether they played for the University of Kentucky or Louisville,” Brown told Forbes.
Not long after, Danny Mosby, executive director of the Jamon Brown Foundation, told the Courier-Journal that former Louisville players Deion Branch and Chris Redman also donated an unspecified amount toward Jared’s funeral costs.
Today, Brown was interviewed by Natalie Grise of WLKY about his decision to help out Lorenzen's family.
And once again, the former Cardinal proved that he's as genuine as they come.
"Obviously I know Jared Lorenzen, he's a legend here in the state," Brown said. "I didn't know he had passed at the time. Danny Mosby, my executive director, he calls me up like, "Man, we just lost a legend," and we started to talk about what's next. The funeral came up, and he said that it might be a good idea, looking at it from a rivalry standpoint.
"Obviously, I'm a Cardinal, he was a Wildcat, it might be a good idea to show not only Kentucky fans, but Louisville fans too, that we can support each other. We felt like it was a good idea, so we reached out to the family, they were open to allowing us to jump in and help anyway possible. It ended up coming out in a donation, but at the end of the day, we were just trying to help out a family that's going through a time of grieving and a rough spot. Just letting them know that we have their back."
