Former Wildcats Fantasy Football Preview

I love fantasy football. I'm an absolute fanatic and now that UK has been putting some serious talent in the league at the skill positions, it's even more enjoyable for me. Let's take some time to look at the top three options for fantasy football victory out of the University of Kentucky. Jacob Tamme TE Indianapolis Colts Jacob Tamme emerged for the Colts last year after Dallas Clark suffered a season-ending wrist injury. He didn't catch his first pass until the eighth game of the year, but for the second half of the season he posted Pro Bowl numbers compiling 631 yards on 67 catches to go with four touchdowns. With Dallas Clark returning from his injury supposedly at full health, look for Tamme's production to decline. However, what he did last season can't be ignored. Tamme should still get some looks and if Clark goes down again, he could post numbers comparable to the top tight ends in the league, just like last season. After averaging more than eight catches per game over the second half of the year, Tamme could prove to be a boon in any PPR league. The Colts have a difficult schedule with series against the stout defenses of both the AFC North and NFC South, in addition to a game at New England, but their AFC South opponents and a match up with the Raiders could provide for high scoring affairs in which Tamme could undoubtedly be the beneficiary of a high fantasy output. Stevie Johnson WR Buffalo Bills Stevie Johnson really got loose on the fantasy world last season with the prolific numbers and prolific attitude we knew he always had in him from his time at UK. He had 82 catches for 1,073 yards and 10 touchdowns in 13 starts for the Bills. As the clear-cut top target in a Buffalo Bills offense that is constantly playing from behind look for Johnson to have another big year in terms of fantasy production. Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't afraid to sling the ball around and if Stevie can work on improving his hands and limiting his drops, he could be a top tier wide receiver in not only fantasy circles, but also the league. The prospect of facing the Jets and Patriots twice in a season, plus a meeting with the Eagles doesn't necessarily bode well for Johnson, but he should be able to exploit the weaker secondaries of the NFC East and AFC West plus the Dolphins twice to generate another great fantasy season. Randall Cobb WR Green Bay Packers I don't normally advocate drafting a team's fifth string wide receiver and sixth receiving option, nor do I earnestly back the selection of rookies, but with Randall Cobb I'm having trouble resisting the urge to take him in the first round. The most beloved football player in recent memory at UK has already wrapped up the title of punt returner for the Packers and with his diverse skill set, he's sure to factor prominently into the offense as a slot receiver as well. Aaron Rodgers is as competent a quarterback as there is in the league and with a heady receiver like Cobb at his disposal, their connection could be money, especially since no defense is going to key on Cobb with Greg Jennings and Jermichael Finley on the field. I don't just recommend that you take Cobb, I recommend that you take him before anyone else is even thinking about taking him. Cobb is a winner who steps up and makes plays, and that remains true in the realm of fantasy football as well. Matchups are irrelevant in Green Bay's offense. Aaron Rodgers will find his receivers and everyone will put up big numbers. Draft Cobb. Don't even think differently. I'm pumped for the start of the fantasy season.
