LISTEN: Freddie Maggard signs off from the KSR Pregame Show for the final time

We don’t always go into Kentucky Football games wiping tears from our eyes, but here we are. This morning was Freddie Maggard’s final KSR Pregame Show. As you know, the former Kentucky quarterback and longtime KSR staffer will be focusing on his health moving forward. He will still write about Kentucky Football and life on the site occasionally, but given his diagnosis, his radio and video appearances will be limited.

Freddie has been sharing his knowledge and perspective on Kentucky Football on KSR since 2015. Since then, he’s taught many of us about the sport and what it’s like to be a kid from the mountains who represents his home state school. Working with Freddie has been the ultimate privilege and over the years, he’s also become a close friend. I can’t tell you how proud I am of him for opening up about his health journey. There are good days and bad, but somehow, he maintains a positive outlook, which is a true testament to his character.

Early this morning, Freddie sent me the speech he wanted to read on the show and I’ve been struggling to keep my composure since. I have no idea how he, Drew, Matt, and Ryan got through it. Pregame tears turn into bowl wins, right?
