Gabe Weis, a Kentucky native and 2026 3-star recruit, announces transfer to La Lumiere

Gabe Weis is moving closer to home.
After spending his junior high school season at Montverde Academy (FL), Weis announced Monday he is transferring to La Lumiere (IN) for his senior campaign. A native of Springfield, KY, Weis spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Washington County before making the move to prep school. The 6-foot-8 forward appeared in 16 games at the well-known Montverde Academy in 2024-25, averaging 3.8 points and two rebounds in 7.1 minutes per outing.
A member of the 2026 recruiting cycle, Weis is considered a three-star prospect and the No. 113 overall recruit in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Weis’ recruitment slowed down a bit this past season. He entered his first and only year at Montverde Academy having already hauled in offers from the likes of Illinois, Xavier, LSU, Indiana, West Virginia, Missouri, Texas A&M, Iowa, Clemson, and others. A scholarship offer from Western Kentucky last month was the first he’s publicly announced since last summer, though.

Of note, an injury kept Weis sidelined for two months during the season. But now fully healthy, some impressive play for the Kentucky Basketball Club on Puma’s Pro16 League over the last couple of months has him back on the national radar. Weis recently told Travis Branham of 247Sports that Auburn, Clemson, and LSU are among the schools he’s hearing from the most right now. His next step is scheduling official visits for later in the year.
Under the old coaching staff, Kentucky was lightly recruiting Weis, who was still playing for Washington County at the time. However, second-year head coach Mark Pope and his staff at UK have yet to seriously engage with the homegrown talent at this time. That could change as Weis looks to continue to impress on the AAU circuit and into his final year of high school ball.
