Gavin Wimsatt is in position to be starting quarterback at Jacksonville State

Cutter Boley is the only scholarship player in Kentucky’s quarterback room in 2024 still on the roster in 2025. Brock Vandagriff retired from football but another Kentucky quarterback is in position to be a starter this fall.
Owensboro (Ky.) High product Gavin Wimsatt committed to Jacksonville State on Jan. 5 after entering the transfer portal on Dec. 9. The former Rutgers quarterback is now in position to be a starter in the C-USA as a redshirt senior.
New head coach Charles Kelly told reporters at C-USA Media Day that Wimsatt leads the open quarterback competition for new offensive coordinator Clint Trickett.

Gavin Wimsatt played in eight games for Kentucky last season as a backup and situational wildcat quarterback. The former four-star recruit completed just 41 percent of his 39 pass attempts with three touchdowns and four interceptions. Wimsatt rushed for 196 non-sack yards and recorded two more touchdowns. The veteran’s career completion percentage is under 50 percent but has over 900 non-sack rushing yards in his career with 13 rushing touchdowns.
Jacksonville State seems ready to hand the Kentucky transfer the keys to the offense as they transition out of Rich Rodriguez‘s spread option attack.
