Getting out in front of your Dave Flemming and Brock Osweiler jokes

If you’re planning to make a “Hey, why do Matt and Drew look like the ESPN guys calling the Kentucky game?” joke this weekend, please know that we’ve heard it. Many, many times.
With No. 21 Texas coming to Kroger Field on Saturday, ESPN has assigned play-by-play broadcaster Dave Flemming and analyst Brock Osweiler to the call. That’s a nightmare for KSR’s mentions because those two have been our unofficial lookalikes for years.
It’s mostly Matt, whose uncanny resemblance to Dave Flemming has been a long-running joke among listeners. Then, a couple of years ago, ESPN paired Flemming with former NFL quarterback Brock Osweiler, and suddenly I was pulled into the bit. Evidently, having a beard and similar eyebrows were enough to earn me Osweiler comparisons, which, to be clear, is wildly generous. The handsome and height factors are heavily in Osweiler’s favor, but we’re close enough to get lumped in with the long-lost twins that each of us works with.

Now, Flemming and Osweiler are coming to Lexington to call Kentucky’s game against Texas, completing the doppelganger prophecy. So, before the messages start rolling in, here’s KSR’s official public statement:
“Yes, we know. Yes, we see it, too. We know what’s coming. The screenshots, the side-by-sides. KSR deeply appreciates your continued dedication to the “Matt looks like Dave” bit. However, we ask that fans remain focused on the actual football game as the University of Kentucky football program seeks its first home SEC win in two seasons. Thank you, and Go Cats.”
If you still feel compelled to send a screenshot of the broadcast booth on Saturday night, make sure @KySportsRadio sees it, because the two are identical.
