We do this every year and with good reason. The Kentucky/Louisville rivalry is our very own civil war, dividing houses and turning friends into foes. Over the next two days, we're going to take a look at the most memorable moments in the history of the series, which dates back to 1913. First up, Patrick Sparks' free throws to clinch the win in 2004.
With the Cards up by one with 4.8 seconds left, the Cats needed a hero. They found one in the form of Central City native Patrick Sparks. Sparks inbounded the ball after a timeout to Kelena Azubuike, who, after finding himself trapped in a triple team, passed it back to Sparks. With time expiring, Sparks pump faked and threw up a three only to be fouled and knocked to the ground.
As officials checked the replay to see which Cardinal fouled Sparks, Tubby Smith strolled over to make sure his point guard was keeping calm, breaking the ice by asking him what he was getting for Christmas. Turns out he didn't need to. With 0.6 seconds on the clock, mighty Sparks stepped to the line and drained all three of his free throws to give the Cats the 60-58 win.
