Green Bay Packers reportedly releasing a former Kentucky linebacker

Tuesday is roster cut day in the NFL for all 32 franchises. A former Kentucky Wildcat has already learned that the hard way.
Multiple insiders are reporting that the Green Bay Packers plan to release rookie linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson ahead of this afternoon’s 4:00 p.m. ET cutdown deadline. After going unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft back in the spring, Dumas-Johnson eventually signed a deal with the Packers. The 6-foot-1 native of Maryland finished with 11 tackles (six of them solo) in the preseason, his best outing being a five-tackle performance against the Seattle Seahawks.
However, that production wasn’t enough for Dumas-Johnson to crack the Packers’ final 53-man roster. That being said, the 23-year-old former Wildcat will work his way back to Green Bay as a practice squad member if he ends up clearing waivers as expected.
Dumas-Johnson didn’t start his college career at Kentucky, though. A four-star recruit out of St. Frances Academy (MD), he signed with Georgia and immediately stepped into a star role. He played in 14 of the Bulldogs’ 15 games as a true freshman in 2021 before filling in as a full-time starter in 2022, even making a First Team All-American along the way. Had injuries not infected his junior campaign, more individual accolades likely would have followed. He played a key role in Georgia winning national titles in 2021 and 2022.

But after fully recovering from his injury at Georgia, Dumas-Johnson hopped into the portal and transferred to Kentucky for the 2024 campaign. He started all 11 games played at inside linebacker for the ‘Cats, led the team in tackles with 67, and was named Third Team All-SEC. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for him to hear his name called come draft night.
Regardless, Dumas-Johnson should be back in Green Bay on the practice squad soon. The 2025 NFL season begins on Thursday, Sept. 4, between the Eagles and Cowboys.
