Greg Monroe and Kentucky.....so you're saying there's a chance

gmonroe01.jpeg When people ask me who the best player in the 2008 class is, the answer is quick and easy, Greg Monroe. While there are other guys who can bring it (I think the best college player immediately may end up being Brandon Jennings), Monroe is the only guy I have seen that is a certain NBA stud in the class. Watching Monroe's recruiting process this summer however has been a bit odd. He is easily the most sought after guy in the class, and every team is trying to make their pitch. But while originally, virtually anyone who watched Monroe agreed that LSU and Duke were the only true players in the race.....now it looks like that the two major Kentucky schools are also seriously in the running. I spoke yesterday to a national AAU coach familiar with Monroe and he told me this: "People dont realize just how open Greg is right now. I think Kentucky, Louisville and a couple of other schools really have a chance. The key is to get him on campus. If they do that, they are in the hunt." This individual raved about Greg's game and then said, "what people dont realize is that Greg wants to fit in and find a place that he will love. He really likes Duke and LSU....but I think he wants to love a place....and right now he is still open to that." I still think Greg is a long shot. But I must admit that for the first time, I am intrigued that UK may have a puncher's chance. It is not an exaggeration to say that Monroe would be the most talented UK player since Mashburn. If that is so, you gotta love the possibility of him visiting in August (as is being speculated). The money is still on Greg going elsewhere.....but for the first time, I now believe the thought of him in Lexington is at least a possibility. And for a player that good, that is something to be excited about.
