HALFTIME: Kentucky can't do anything right in the Governor's Cup, trails 20-0

It’s ugly in Louisville. An absolute disaster for Kentucky. Nearly every phase of the game has gone wrong, and Louisville capitalized on every mistake. It started early with the blocked punt that set up the Cards’ opening touchdown, which, in hindsight, was a clear warning sign that Kentucky wasn’t ready, and Louisville absolutely was.

From there, it only snowballed. The offensive line has been overwhelmed from the jump, allowing five first-half sacks and giving Cutter Boley almost no chance to settle in. Kentucky has seven rushing yards in the game.

Mark Stoops’ decision-making on 3rd-and-11 didn’t help. Facing soft coverage to prevent a deep throw, Kentucky chose not to take the easy yards to set up a manageable kick, resulting in Jacob Kauwe’s 52-yard attempt, which barely drifted wide. An early empty possession in a 7-0 game at the time.

Defensively, Kentucky had chances to flip momentum, but it sabotaged itself there, too. Allowing a 43-yard touchdown on 4th-and-1 and Daveren Rayner’s dropped gift-wrapped interception come to mind.

Injuries are piling up, Stoops looks rattled every time the broadcast shows him, and the short-handed Cardinals offense has been far more comfortable than it should have. Louisville’s true freshman walk-on running back, Braxton Jennings, ripped off a 22-yard run, part of an eight-carry day for the Ashland native.

One thing went Kentucky’s way before halftime, though. Louisville lined up for a field goal and then let the clock run out, bringing us to a 20-0 halftime score in the Governor’s Cup. It’s meltdown time.

Halftime: Louisville 20, Kentucky 0
