Hayes Johnson, 3-Star Offensive Lineman, Commits to Kentucky
The Kentucky football program has picked up its first commitment in the 2024 recruiting class. For the second straight year, the Wildcats are starting with one of the most talented prospects from the state of Kentucky. Thursday morning Hayes Johnson announced he will be a Wildcat.
Johnson shared the news with friends, family and the Kentucky Sports Radio listening audience at Taylor County High School in Campbellsville. Recruited by Vince Marrow and offensive line coach Zach Yenser, he chose the Wildcats over offers from Baylor, Tennessee, Louisville and Michigan State.
Hayes Johnson is considered either the No. 1 or No. 2 player in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, depending on the recruiting service. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound athlete is a three-star prospect that primarily plays right tackle in the high school ranks.
Hayes Johnson is the latest in a long line of talented offensive lineman from the state of Kentucky to join the Big Blue Wall. Mason Wolfe, Austin Dotson, Landon Young and the man who helped recruit him, graduate assistant Drake Jackson, spent years logging starts on the Wildcats’ offensive line. This year Eli Cox, Jager Burton and Tanner Bowles are holding down the fort, while Grant Bingham and Malachi Wood develop. Hayes Johnson will be the next man up. An avid outdoorsman and a lifelong Kentucky fan, he’ll fit in like a glove in Lexington.
A versatile athlete that works out at Aspirations Gym in Louisville, he has played all five positions on the offensive line at Taylor County. Johnson has violent hands at the point of attack and is quick to reach defenders at the second level. A charismatic character, he’ll be in Lexington frequently, starting with this weekend’s Junior Day, to help the Wildcats’ coaches assemble a top-notch class in 2024.
