Hip-Hop Hogwash's Friday News and Views

Drew Franklinby: Drew Franklin09/12/14DrewFranklinKSR
hogwash As Kentucky fans welcome Dee Jay Silver into the friendly confines of Commonwealth Stadium to spin the hottest hits of today, Nebraska football fans have differing opinions about the music selection in Memorial Stadium. Take Charlie Ackerman for example. Charlie, though a supporter of Husker football for half a century, cannot handle the volume of the stadium music on gamedays:
We are senior citizens and we have enjoyed Big Red football ever since Bob Devaney came in 1962 -- 334 football games. We think the new stadium sound system is great; however, it was so loud we could hardly talk to each other. People could probably hear it in Crete! Come on. Turn it down halfway, and by the way it would be nice to have some wonderful music instead of this hip-hop hogwash ... the kind that Dr. Tom Osbourne could enjoy. -- Charlie Ackerman, Milford
I have bad news for Charlie. Chuck Berry ain't walking through that door. The players and students aren't bouncing around to Bo Diddley, Buffalo Springfield or the Monkees. The hip-hop hogwash gets the party going and keeps it going throughout the game and there is no room for Steppenwolf. Embrace the atmosphere, and if it's too loud for conversation, forget the conversation, drop the cane and start tip-toeing in your Jordans. *****

Braylon Heard and Javess Blue practiced, will travel to Florida.

Some good news for the UK offense out of Thursday's practice: injured starters Braylon Heard and Javess Blue got some run and will be available for Saturday's game. How much they will play remains to be seen, but Mark Stoops told reporters, "We'll get something out of them." Zach West, on the other hand, will not dress against the Gators. He is still bothered by that mysterious nerve injury in his neck.

Stoops believes Austin MacGinnis' 53-yard field goal should get the school record.

After reviewing the game tape this week, Mark Stoops noticed Austin MacGinnis' 53-yard boot was two inches shy of being a 54-yarder. He said he got on Tony Neeley about it but Neeley wouldn't budge one yard on the distance. Regardless of where it stands in the record books, Stoops believes it will MacGinnis' confidence going forward. He needs it, too, after missing three of his six attempts so far this season.

Matt Jones, the Florida one, plays his best against Kentucky.

The proof is in the pudding, or in this case, his career-highs: jones-highs At least he didn't catch a touchdown pass, am I right?

Kentucky will likely go with a white helmet, blue facemask on Saturday.

Nate Willis posted the photo you see above to his SnapChat. The helmet appears to be the same white helmet Kentucky wore last year, but with a blue facemask. The jerseys will be white because it's an away game.

Team USA reaches Gold Medal game.

And DeMarcus Cousins almost declared war on Jonas Valanciunas' face. That likely would've been the end of Boogie's run with Team USA, but I can't say I'd blame him after taking that elbow to the throat. After the game, Coach K had to break up a shoving match between some of the other players, too. Lithuania was out for a fight.

Caleb Swanigan got an in-home visit from Calipari, Payne and Rohrssen.

Three members of the UK coaching staff visited Swanigan in his home on Thursday. Swanigan had a breakout performance against Cheick Diallo's team in the Peach Jam back in July and he has been climbing the ranking ever since. He's up to No. 8 overall in the ESPN100 and just outside 247Sports' top 10 at No. 11. Cal also met with Brandon Ingram and planned to meet with Henry Ellenson and possibly Charles Matthews on Thursday, but I can't confirm if he made those trips because I'm watching Thursday Night Football and eating chicken right now. Ingram's visit went well:

Attention: Golfers and UK Fans

Our friends at the Fayette County UK Alumni Club are having their annual golf scramble on Tuesday, September 23 at Keene Run Golf Course. The cost is $125 per person, which covers your green fee, range balls, tee prizes, long drive and closest to the pin contests, lunch, drinks and snacks. Registration and lunch starts at 11:30 am and shotgun start will be at 1 pm; individual golfers and foursomes are welcome. All money raised will go toward the club's scholarship endowment which provides scholarships for deserving students to attend UK. There will also be a silent auction and raffle for the cause. I'm told many former UK basketball and football players and coaches have committed to this event, and there will be an appearance by the UK cheerleaders and dance team. Not to mention, Team KSR will be on the course sending golf balls past players' heads on neighboring holes. If you're interested, and you should be, register by September 19 at www.ukalumni.net/fayettegolf2014 or send an email to [email protected] for more information. Think you can hit one down the middle off this tee box? FORE RIGHT when I'm up there.

KSR will be LIVE from Total Quality Logistics for Friday's show.

tql Friday morning's show at TQL is one you'll want to attend, especially if you could use a new job. The fine people at TQL will be promoting their company and taking applications with a live KSR broadcast going on in the same room. Plus, Drake's is providing food for everyone, and Justin Maines, TQL's prized employee, will be on hand for autographs and bro hugs. TQL is ready for a BBN invasion: uk
