Big Blue Nation is one of a kind, truly. It’s a level of passion no one can match — maybe not even at the professional level, whether you’re talking nationally or worldwide. No matter the event, big or small, in Lexington or on the moon, Kentucky fans will be there. An old friend once put it best: “You people are crazy.”

Passionate and crazy are good, but at what point does that transition into annoying territory? SEC Roll Call’s Matt Mitchell — a popular content creator on YouTube with 614K subscribers — decided to rank the league’s most annoying fanbases, and the Wildcats’ spot on the list of 16 schools may surprise you.

To be clear, he looks at this through a football-first lens and clarifies a basketball-first ranking would certainly change things for Kentucky. When factoring in everything, BBN’s annoying traits don’t compare to the other SEC diehards walking down the aisle to Rocky Top or barking at other humans on their hands and knees like actual dawgs.

12. Kentucky

“If this video were exclusively about basketball fans, you wouldn’t have even clicked on this video. You know Kentucky is caring — even though that would technically be their first championship in anything basketball-related in over a decade. They’d probably still hang a banner for it,” Mitchell said of BBN. “Now, in football, they play at Kroger Field. When other fans in this conference enter their stadiums, they look up to see the names of gridiron greats etched forever on the coliseum walls. Kentucky fans get access to the Kroger VIP tailgate when they spend $35 or more on groceries the week of the game.

“It is annoying that you don’t care more. How dare you not tie your mental health to the outcome of a game decided by a bunch of 19-year-olds who don’t even know you exist? This is the SEC, dammit!”

That’s a fascinating take, really, knowing just how much weight the basketball fandom carries and how that passion is easily comparable to Tennessee, Alabama or Georgia football fans. But I get it, apples and oranges. Don’t underestimate Kroger Field when it’s absolutely rocking, though — BBN can turn that grocery store into a Grove Street Party.

Coming in at No. 1 overall? The Crimson Tide, with Mitchell using a similar line to Kentucky’s Super Bowl mindset in basketball.

“When you beat Alabama, that becomes one of the biggest wins in your program’s history,” he said. “When Alabama beats you, that’s just another Saturday.”

From there, he makes fun of Texas fans for being sensitive about Horns Down, Tennessee fans being the product of babies drinking Mountain Dew, Georgia fans for cheering for a team with a new reckless driving charge every day that ends in Y and South Carolina fans for having an “irresponsible level of optimism” each football season.

It’s excellent content you must see for yourself. Take a look at the complete rankings:

  1. Alabama
  2. Texas
  3. Tennessee
  4. LSU
  5. Georgia
  6. Florida
  7. Texas A&M
  8. Ole Miss
  9. South Carolina
  10. Auburn
  11. Oklahoma
  12. Kentucky
  13. Arkansas
  14. Mississippi State
  15. Missouri
  16. Vanderbilt

What do you think, BBN? Did he nail it or get the list completely wrong? What fanbase annoys you the most and why is it Tennessee ten times out of ten?
