As Kentucky fans, we’ve been hearing about Jasper Johnson for years. The son of Kentucky football great Dennis Johnson made a name for himself as a five-star basketball recruit and is Mark Pope’s highest-ranked high school recruit thus far. The further back you go in Jasper’s story, the more remarkable it becomes.

Earlier today, I published a longform feature on Jasper’s journey, including his special relationship with his grandfather, Alvis, who started a high school football dynasty in Harrodsburg in the 1970s; his father and uncle’s rise to fame in the ’90s; Jasper’s difficult decision to give up football to focus on basketball; and his success at Link Academy and Overtime Elite, which led him back to Kentucky. It’s a beast of a story — and well worth your time to read — but here at KSR, we provide content in a variety of forms. Our videographer, Steven Peake, accompanied me to the Joe Craft Center to film the interviews with Jasper and his parents, Dennis and Nyoka, and gave the story his magic touch for YouTube.

The video is now available on the KSR YouTube Channel. If you’d rather watch Jasper’s story than read it, pop some popcorn and hit play below.
