How Josh Allen Helped Kentucky Land J.J. Weaver

As Josh Allen’s Kentucky career comes to a close, he’s making sure the program is left in good hands.
Today UK received a commitment from four-star defensive end J.J. Weaver. The 6’6″ 240-pound athlete from the city of Louisville is a game-changer. There are many reasons why Weaver ultimately chose Kentucky. Allen played at least a small part in making sure Weaver did not leave the Bluegrass.
Weaver was in the stands at Kroger Field when Allen strip-sacked Kyle Shurmur to seal a 14-7 victory over Vanderbilt. When Weaver saw what Allen did, he thought, ‘I could do that here too.’
“I can do that,” he told KSR. “But for me, Josh Allen wasn’t my size. I can get better and be even bigger than Josh Allen.”

Better than Josh Allen? The projected top five draft pick who’s a finalist for every major defensive award in college football? It’s a bold statement coming from Weaver, but he didn’t get that idea on his own.
Allen talked to Weaver frequently throughout his recruitment. His message was clear: “You can be better than me. You got this.”
Fulfilling Allen’s prophecy will not be easy, but this 19-year old has all of the tools to make it happen.
