High school football across the country is officially in full swing. Of the Kentucky Wildcats’ 16 class of 2024 commits, 15 of them have now played at least one game to start the 2023 season. How did they perform on the gridiron for their respective schools? Let’s find out together with a player-by-player recap.

Cutter Boley (QB) 6-5, 200 | Lexington Christian Academy (Hodgenville, KY)
4-star: No. 140 overall, No. 9 QB

  • Against top-ranked Boyle County, No. 10 Lexington Christian Academy couldn’t recreate the magic from last week’s thrilling win over Bowling Green, but Cutter Boley still showed out. The future Wildcat quarterback threw for 406 yards on 23-41 passing for three touchdowns and three interceptions. His longest completion was for 66 yards and he was not sacked throughout the night. However, the Rebels still took down Boley and the Eagles 47-38. Boley has four interceptions through two games so far, but he’s been spectacular in every other area early on this season. LCA and Boley will be back in action again on Saturday, Sept. 2 against No. 15 Pikeville.

Terhyon Nichols (CB) 5-11, 185 | Withrow (Cincinnati, OH)
4-star: No. 196 overall, No. 22 CB

  • After smashing Walnut Hills 42-0 last week, Terhyon Nichols and Withrow cruised past Springboro 29-10 on Friday. Nichols was credited with at least seven tackles (one for loss) in the win and even returned a kickoff for 30 yards.

Elijah Groves (LB) 6-3, 210 | East Robertson (Cross Plains, TN)
4-star: No. 231 overall, No. 22 LB

  • Elijah Groves and East Roberston have started the season 2-0 after destroying Houston County 69-0 on Friday. Groves looked like a man amongst boys against Houston County, registering seven solo tackles (two for loss) on defense and nearly scoring a touchdown after forcing a fumble in the backfield. Groves even scored a touchdown on a punt return that he ran back roughly 90 yards and also pulled out this highlight move on offense after hauling in an easy pass. He caught two passes for 45 yards.

Hardley Gilmore (WR) 6-1, 165 | Pahokee (Belle Glade, FL)
4-star: No. 282 overall, No. 39 WR

  • Hardley Gilmore committed to Kentucky on Friday, but his celebration was spoiled later in the night. Pahokee dropped to 1-1 on the season after losing to Santaluces 38-14. Gilmore was quiet, registering four three catches for 30 yards and zero touchdowns.

Tovani Mizell (RB) 6-1, 195 | Western (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
3-star: No. 523 overall, No. 43 RB

  • Tovani Mizell and Western opened the season with a 14-10 win over Milton on Thursday. Due to a right knee injury, Mizell did not suit up and was seen on crutches on the sidelines.

Jiquavious Marshall (ATH) 6-4, 180 | Westside (Macon, GA)
3-star: No. 545 overall, No. 20 ATH

  • Jiquavious “Quavo” Marshall and Macon Westside moved 2-0 on Friday after beating Macon Southwest 35-28. Marshall finished with four total tackles — all solo — along with one interception that he returned 35 yards the other way.

Aba Selm (IOL) 6-4, 295 | Simon Kenton (Independence, KY)
3-star: No. 616 overall, No. 48 IOL

  • Simon Kenton and Aba Selm were supposed to take the field on Friday as part of the Kroger KSR Game of the Week, but Mother Nature wasn’t having it. Thunderstorms in Versailles delayed this game for over an hour before it was ultimately canceled. It will not be made up either. Simon Kenton will play next on Friday on the road against No. 7 Covington Catholic and TE Willie Rodriguez.

David Washington Jr. (WR) 5-10, 180 | St. Joseph’s Prep School (Philadelphia, PA)
3-star: No. 803 overall, No. 124 WR

  • David Washington Jr. and St. Joseph’s Prep School were greeted with a monster of a season-opening opponent, Florida’s IMG Academy. Both ranked among the top 10 programs in the country, No. 4 IMG snuck past No. 10 St. Joseph’s 17-14 in Ocean City, NJ. IMG led 17-0 with less than two minutes left in the third quarter before nearly pulling off the comeback down the stretch. Stats for Washington were not available.

Caleb Redd (EDGE) 6-4, 220 | DeSmet (Saint Louis)
3-star: No. 834 overall, No. 60 EDGE

  • In their season debut on Saturday, Caleb Redd and DeSmet beat Kirkwood 44-21. Redd was part of a dominant defensive line for DeSmet that ripped apart the Kirkwood offensive line. Redd registered at least three tackles and one quarterback hurry.

Wille Rodriguez (TE) 6-4, 225 | Covington Catholic (Covington, KY)
3-star: No. 893 overall, No. 48 TE

  • After scoring a touchdown in the opener last week, Willie Rodriguez hauled in another score in Covington Catholic’s 35-21 win over Highlands. He finished with four receptions for 53 yards and the one receiving touchdown. Rodriguez also suited up on defense and made an impact, recording five solo tackles, two for loss. Covington Catholic will take on Selm and Simon Kenton on Friday.

Antwan Smith (LB) 6-3, 195 | Westlake (Atlanta, GA)
3-star: No. 919 overall, No. 88 LB

  • Antwan Smith and Westlake had no issue reaching 2-0 on the season after smacking Crisp County 50-12 on Friday. Smith was credited with at least four quarterback hurries and one special teams tackle.

Steven Soles (LB) 6-2, 215 | Powell (Powell, TN)
3-star: No. 922 overall, No. 89 LB

  • Steven Soles and Powell fell to 1-1 on the season after losing to Farragut 28-21 on Friday. Farragut scored a touchdown on 4th and 17 with 14 seconds left in the game to seal the win. Soles was credited with at least two tackles.

Hayes Johnson (IOL) 6-3, 295 | Taylor County (Campbellsville, KY)
3-star: No. 1,082 overall, No. 96 IOL

  • Behind Hayes Johnson and the rest of the offensive line, Taylor County rattled off 225 rushing yards in a 34-3 drumming of Bardstown on Friday night. With Johnson leading Taylor County’s line, the Cardinals only threw the ball six times on the night. Johnson and Taylor County will be featured in this week’s Kroger KSR Game of the Week against Elizabethtown on Friday night.

Quaysheed Scott (ATH) 6-0, 185 | Marion (Marion, SC)
3-star: No. 1,182 overall, No. 58 ATH

  • Quaysheed Scott and Marion (2-0) demolished Wilson on Friday by a final score of 56-3. Scott’s night was highlighted by a 95-yard rushing touchdown and another 95-yard score off a kickoff return. That wasn’t the end of his contributions though. He also scored 10- and 50-yard rushing touchdowns while hauling in an interception and forcing a fumble on defense. Scott recorded multiple tackles (one in the backfield) and a pass breakup. He did a little bit of everything for Marion.

Jadon Lafontant (IOL) 6-3, 315 | Brunswick School (Greenwich, CT)
3-star: No. 1,244 overall, No. 107 IOL

  • Off week for Brunswick School. Jadon Lafontant will have to wait longer than the rest of his future teammates to make his senior season debut, which is set for Saturday, September 9 against Loomis Chaffee.

Jacob Kauwe (K) 6-2, 200 | Billings West (Billings, MT)
3-star: No. 1,739 overall, No. 7 K

  • It came in a loss, but Jacob Kauwe opened up his senior season with a 49-yard made field goal, two converted point after attempts, four touchbacks, and two punts inside the 10-yard line as he played both the kicking and punting roles for Billings West.
